Job Title: General Manager, Distribution Center
Location: Chicago, IL — On-site
Pay: $100,000 – $130,000 per year, based on experience
Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Job Summary:
The General Manager is responsible for the full operational performance of a distribution center within a large, multi-site food distribution network. This is a senior leadership role accountable for people, process, cost, and customer service across all warehouse and distribution functions at the site. The GM sets the operational standard, develops site leadership, and serves as the primary point of accountability for facility performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all site operations including warehousing, distribution, labor management, and facilities
- Own the P&L for the distribution center including labor costs, operational expenses, and budget adherence
- Develop and hold accountable a team of warehouse managers, supervisors, and leads across all shifts
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve order accuracy
- Serve as the primary operational liaison between the site and corporate supply chain leadership
- Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations, BRC standards, and company quality policies
- Analyze operational data and produce regular performance reports for senior leadership
Must-Haves / Requirements:
- 5+ years of progressive distribution or warehouse leadership, including general management or multi-department oversight
- Prior experience in food distribution, food manufacturing, or a similarly regulated environment
- Demonstrated P&L ownership or operational budget management experience
- Strong people leadership track record — building teams, managing performance, and developing talent
- Proficient in WMS systems and operational reporting tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing a site with 100+ employees
- Background in Asian food distribution or ethnic food supply chain
- Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodology experience
